This chapter discusses
trade issues in the context of species loss and describes three
controversial cases of environmental protection: rats, sharks
and bats. The guests are Trigg Talley from the US Department of
State and Pep Fuller from the US Environmental Protection Agency,
who will discuss current efforts to control trade in persistent
organic pollutants. The case study covers trade in ivory, threats
to the health of elephant populations, and actions taken by the
Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species to ban
such trade.
