What is Digital Professor?

Digital Professor provides assistance and guidance to and for faculty in the use of multimedia in teaching and research. This function is becoming as common at universities today as are computer labs. Because this involves the use of visual media, its application is much more subjective than the simple computer science applications of computational methods.

At American University, this role has been recognized for some time and embodied in the New Media Center (NMC). The NMC and its manager provide guidance on multimedia, with this creative sense inherent to the function, for campus units to enhance teaching curricula.

The NMC and the Digital Professor Project create a vehicle which aid students and staff alike. The goal of Digital Professor is to produce digital media products that focus on the use of faculty, students, and lecturers as content providers. This idea is to develop a cost-effective means for faculty, working with students, to produce digital products that can be used to augment existing class tools.
