Dr. Shalini Venturelli is Director of the Global Public Media Research Project (GPMP), and Associate Professor of International Communication and International Relations in the School of International Service, American University, Washington, DC. Her research examines international dimensions of the global knowledge society and global innovation, as well as the growth of global public media in cyberspace or online citizen media in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and North America. In addition to the Global Public Media Project, Professor Venturelli also directs an international comparative study on the Global Knowledge Society. She is the author of many publications on the Information Society and the Global Knowledge Society.

Professor Venturelli received a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and a B.S. from Illinois State University.
