Dear AU Alumni:

Thank you for the many thoughtful and concerned responses to acting president Kerwin’s message last Friday. We understand your concern and will make every effort to keep you informed of any new developments. In light of the continuing investigation and the media attention it has received, I wanted to take a moment to reassure you about the situation here at AU.

In your responses, many of you expressed concern about your contributions to AU. Let me assure you that no donations to the university are involved in any way with this issue. All funds given to the university are used exclusively in the manner designated by the donor. Donations continue to support vital areas such as student scholarships, academic facilities, school-based programs and curriculum, and many other projects that make American University a great place to live and learn. Your support sustains this university, and your generosity continues to contribute to our development and growth.

While this is a difficult time for AU, I have no doubt that with your dedication and understanding the university will remain a place committed to academic excellence and devoted to the members of our community.

As always, we welcome your input on this matter. Please address your comments to me or Dr. Kerwin at aualum@american.edu.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Al Checcio
Vice President of University Relations
