Overview

The University Honors Program recognizes outstanding Honors students, faculty, and staff members at the annual Honors Awards Ceremony.

Exceptional Honors students can be nominated for one or more of the following Honors Awards. These awards are given to Honors students with a strong GPA and who demonstrate outstanding leadership at the university or in the community:

  • Outstanding Honors Senior Award
  • Outstanding Honors Junior Award
  • Outstanding Honors Sophomore Award
  • Outstanding Honors Freshman Award

In addition to the above, we also present the following recognitions:

  • Honors Scholar Award -- This award is given in recognition of an Honors student's outstanding scholarship. Past recipients have distinguished themselves through a record of academic achievement, remarkable research or creative work, including some who have presented notable papers or other significant academic projects (such as multimedia, performing arts or business presentations) at conferences or competitions on campus or beyond AU.
  • Outstanding Leadership in the Honors Community -- This award is given to the student(s) who have demonstrated oustanding leadership in Honors Program activities.
  • Honors Faculty of the Year Award -- This award is given to the faculty member for his/her contribution to Honors teaching.
  • Honors Alumni Award -- Alumni selected for this award demonstrate an ongoing, active interest in bettering the AU Honors community or the wider campus community.

The University Honors Program also recognizes other AU faculty and staff who have made significant contributions to the University Honors Program. If you wish to nominate an individual for a specific contribution not covered in the listed Honors Awards, please send your nomination to honors@american.edu.
