Message from Director

Dear Honors Alum,

I want to welcome you to the Alumni section of the University Honors Program Web site, which I hope you will find useful as a place to learn about the current activities of your Honors Program and stay connected to other Honors alums.

Our program has made great strides to reach out to Honors alums through the creation of an Honors alumni advisory group.  The Honors Advisory Committee has planned activities for Honors alumni during AU’s annual Family and Alumni Weekend and at other times during the school year.  Alums have generously given of their time to visit campus and meet with our current students to speak about how their Honors experience had an impact on their lives after graduation.  Last June, we gathered scores of recent alums at Clyde’s in Washington, D.C., for a “happy hour,” an event that we publicized through our Honors Alumni Facebook Group.

As you browse the Honors Web site, I hope you will recall fondly the time you spent at AU and the contribution that the University Honors Program made to that experience.  I also urge you to re-connect to our program as a member of our “lifelong community of scholars.” I welcome you to share your news with us and to follow the lives of some of your fellow Honors alums in the pages of Honorable Mentions (see News)I hope that you might be able to attend one of our Honors alumni gatherings or stop by for Cake Day!

I also invite you to think about how you can contribute  -- in many ways -- to our University Honors Program.  For some of you, the best way to contribute would be to mentor a student, serve on our Honors Advisory Committee or appear on an alumni panel to teach networking skills to our Honors students.  For others of you, I would ask you to consider making a financial contribution of any amount to AU and designating it for the University Honors Program (see University Initiatives). Whatever the form of your contribution, you can be certain that we will maximize it to provide the same kind of special learning community that you experienced as a member of our University Honors Program.

As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions about how we can work together to improve our program for both our current Honors students and Honors alums.

Sincerely,

Michael Mass
Program Director
