Why create AU Abroad?
AU Abroad will build upon the experience and programs offered by the World Capitals Program. The new ideas will lift American to be the premier global University and enhance the international experience of all its students.

AU Abroad's menu of choices
AU Abroad will offer a wider menu of choices for study and experiential learning abroad that will appeal to different preferences and interests of students. These include:

• Studying with other AU students in subject-specific programs such as the European Union in Brussels;
• Studying with local students in prestigious universities around the world;
• AU Abroad sites in 16 countries and many new sites all over the world;
• Living in dormitories with other international students, in home-stays, or in an apartment;
• Internships with companies, non-governmental organizations, or governments;
• Organized or independent travel;
• Learning in local languages such as Spanish, French, and others; and
• Total immersion language programs to prepare for a semester abroad or to gain fluency.

How can you help?
Students and AU community members are encouraged to make suggestions on new sites. We hope that all students will consider learning another country and culture by studying for a semester or year abroad. If you have questions or ideas, please write to us at auabroad@american.edu.
