2004 Summer Institute Students pose in front of a new American University sign.

"This institute is a unique opportunity to engage top academics and policymakers in exploring policy options for some of the most pressing issues in each country. My internship at the Inter-American Development Bank turned into a consultancy. I highly recommend this academic seminar and internship."

Discovering North America Summer Institute 2004
Dates: June 2 – July 21, 2004

This seven-week institute is dedicated to understanding the ties that connect and the differences that divide North America’s three countries: Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Students will participate in seminars, work in a Washington internship, meet senior officials and policy makers from the three countries, and experience the region’s diverse cultural traditions. The goal of the summer institute is to guide you to an innovative way of thinking about yourself and your neighbors—not just as citizens of individual countries but also as residents of North America.
