Center for North American Studies (CNAS) Awards Grants to AU Faculty
TO ENCOURAGE AND support faculty research on various North American topics, CNAS awarded oneyear grants to several AU professors in the fall of 2005.
Economics Professor Robert Blecker of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) received funding for his research project on “Reviving Economic Growth in Mexico in the Context of North American Integration.” He presented a draft at the Latin American Studies Association meeting in Puerto Rico in March. Later in the spring, he presented another draft and related papers at seminars held at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, and El Colegio de México. Dr. Blecker is now organizing a larger collaborative research project with scholars from these institutions.
Other research grants include:
- Government Professor Todd Eisenstadt of the School of Public Affairs designed a new course, “Mexico in the Age of NAFTA”
- Economics Professor Ellen Meade of CAS is conducting research in Ottawa and Mexico City on North American monetary integration
- Professor Isidro Morales, a 2005–06 CNAS senior fellow and visiting Fulbright scholar from Mexico, is analyzing North America’s continental energy market
- Economics Professor Walter Park of CAS is conducting research on “Intellectual Property Rights and North American Innovation and Technology Trade”
CNAS will make small grants available to AU faculty again in 2006–07. Information will be posted on the CNAS Web site this fall.
