Fifth Summer Institute on North America a Success
THIS PAST JUNE, KOGOD and AU’s Center for North American Studies (CNAS) welcomed 28 MBA students for the fifth summer institute on North America. During the rigorous two-week course, participants from the United States and Mexico explored the strategies of North American corporations and the benefits and obstacles of further regional integration from a business perspective. Topics that directly impact business—such as how to improve North American transportation and whether the region should have a single currency—were also addressed.
The majority of the students who participated in the “North American Business Environment” course were from EGADE, the prestigious business school of Tec de Monterrey (ITESM) in Mexico. “The program was very intense and allowed us to learn the U.S. and Canadian perspectives toward NAFTA and North America’s future,” commented Gerardo Jean, an EGADE student. “It gave us the experience to lead North American businesses,” he added.
Experts on North American issues, such as Kogod Professors Frank DuBois and Richard Linowes, gave lectures. AU’s Economic Professors Robert Blecker and Ellen Meade each led class discussions. Outside speakers came from Procter & Gamble, the Canadian and Mexican Embassies, and Capitol Hill.
