Gerardo Rodriguez's Passion for Business and Latin America

GERARDO RODRIGUEZ (KOGOD '07) is not the typical finance major. With a strong interest in emerging markets broadly, Rodriguez is also passionate about Latin America.

Born in Mexico City, Rodriguez has lived in the U.S. since age six. In the fall of 2005 he studied at Tec de Monterrey, where he perfected his Spanish and experienced life in a city which, since NAFTA, has become home to branches of many service companies, such as Bain and PricewaterhouseCoopers. This study abroad program enabled him to directly enroll in courses with Mexicans and live with Mexican roommates.

Rodriguez interned with Goldman Sachs's foreign currency trading division last summer. Following graduation from AU, Rodriguez will work in Morgan Stanley's equities trading division. Rodriguez returned to Mexico to participate in the May 2006 Triumvirate organized by the North American Forum for Integration. In this simulated exercise with 70 other students from North America, he role-played a Mexican policymaker. "It built my leadership skills and helped me understand how resolutions are written and adopted," noted Rodriguez. For the first time, the Triumvirate will be in the U.S., as AU hosts it this May 20–25 in Washington, D.C. "AU students have played leadership roles in Ottawa and Mexico City during the past two years, and we hope that even more AU students will participate in this spring's program," said Dr. Robert Pastor, director of AU's Center for North American Studies.
