Dr. James T. McHugh Joins
AU's Center for North American
Studies (CNAS)
DR. JAMES T. MCHUGH IS SERVING AS CNAS associate director for the 2006–07 academic year. He is on sabbatical from Roosevelt University in Chicago, where he is a tenured political science professor and coordinator for the North American Studies Program. Dr. McHugh's expertise covers U.S.-Canadian comparative politics, constitutional law, and political philosophy. Widely published, his books include Comparative Constitutional Traditions and Ex Uno Plura: State Constitutions and Their Political Culture.
"Administrative experiences for professors can be difficult to find," explained Dr. McHugh. "This position at CNAS provided a rare opportunity for me to go to a university with AU's reputation and establish those administrative credentials in a field of specialization with which I have some background."
Since last August, Dr. McHugh has advised students, coordinated faculty seminars, and organized a conference on the North American legal system (see related story). He is also organizing the North American Forum on Integration's 2007 Triumvirate to be held at AU this May (see previous page). "We are fortunate to have someone with Dr. McHugh's expertise, dedication, and enthusiasm at CNAS for the year," said Dr. Pastor, CNAS Director. Professor McHugh commented how "AU's commitment to internationalization is a reason for its expanding reputation, and CNAS makes a very strong contribution to the efforts of politicians, professionals, and scholars in this area throughout Canada, Mexico, and the United States."
