2. Where are the study groups held?

All classes are held at:

Temple Baptist Church
3850 Nebraska Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20016

ILR rents classroom space from the church. However, the ILR program is non-sectarian and non-denominational.

3. When are the study groups held?

Like a college, the ILR program offers ten week long courses during fall and spring semesters. During each semester, study groups meet once a week Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

4. Do you offer individual lectures?

During the fall and spring semesters there are special lectures during the lunch break on Tuesdays between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

In January and June (between our regular terms) there are lectures held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon. No membership fee is required and these lectures are open to the public.

5. How do I register for membership and study groups?

Since we do not accept credit cards, online registration is not available. Contact our office for a catalog; registration forms are in the back of the catalog and payment is required at the time of registration.

6. Who is eligible for membership to the ILR?

The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR), affiliated with American University, is dedicated to the proposition that learning is a lifelong process. Retired, semi-retired and other interested people are eligible for membership in ILR. There are no academic or experience requirements.

7. What does it cost to become a member?

The annual membership fee is $400 for the whole academic year starting in the fall or $225 for one term. For this fee members may take up to three courses per semester. We offer approximately fifty study groups per term to choose from. Financial aid is available.

As a member of the ILR you will have the privilege of accessing:
