Information Technology Landscape in Kenya

 

ELECTRONIC COMMERCE

Despite the fact that Kenya is still behind other developed nations in promoting the Internet, electronic commerce has made progress in the tourism industry. Manufacturing and insurance also have an existence in e-commerce. Currently, the infrastructure to support e-commerce is more advanced compared to other African countries. However, Kenya is still so behind South Africa, which is the continent leader.

 In general trade is restricted due to the following reasons:

· Use of credit cards are uncommon

· The issue of trust. It will take a while before the people are able to trust enough to perform transactions on the Internet.

·  Slow IT adoption

· Poor telecommunication infrastructure

· Insufficient hardware and software 

· Unreliable electric power
