One of the most lucrative and exciting areas of investment in Jamaica today is the informatics. Jamaica provides a wide range of informatic services from basic data entry to multimedia software services. Many of the information processing companies are located in the Montego Bay Export Free Zone, as well as in the Kingston Metropolitian area. Currently these are the most advance areas for information technology. Most of the companies in the IT sector are located in the Montego bay Free Zone area or the Kingston Metropolitian area. Both areas are in close proximity to shipping airport facilities and support services.
Investors enjoy the benefits of incentives and preferential tax treatment, as well as the prsence of Jamaica Digiport International. Jamaica Digiports International (JDI), owned by Cable and Wireless, is located in Montego bay Free Zone. JDI holds powerful data transfer facilities, international exchange as well as sophisticated imaging and voice facisimile services.
The Government has plans for the development of Mandeville and Spanish Town to include information technology parks. The areas above with the pink shading are the increasingly popular areas for Information an Communication and Technology for this caribbean island.
