Mongolia’s Telecommunication Infrastructure and Deregulation

Overview:

As well as guaranteeing physical property, the Mongolian Government ensures protection for intellectual property. Mongolia became a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization in 1979. Mongolia also has joined eleven International Conventions including the Paris Convention on the Protection of Industrial Property and Madrid Agreement on International Registration of Trademarks.

Intellectual Property:

The Mongolian Government guarantees physical property and ensures protection for intellectual property. Mongolia became a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 1979. Mongolia also has joined eleven International Conventions including the Paris Convention on the Protection of Industrial Property and Madrid Agreement on International Registration of Trademarks.

  • Patents: Patent Law of Mongolia (as of June 1993) covers inventions, industrial designs, innovation certificates, and utility models, and has been last amended in April 1995 and again in February 1997.

 

  • Trademarks: Law on Tradenames and Trademarks (as of February 1997) and prior to that, the Statute on Trademarks, 1967, and has been last amended in September 1987.

 

  • Copyright: Copyright Law (as of September 1993) and has been last amended in 1999.

  • There are three educational institutions that have specialized classes in teaching Intellectual Property.

Mongolian Authorities Enforcing Intellectual Property:

 

  • Intellectual Property Tribunal
  • Any Mongolian courts can deal with infringement cases.

 

 

Trade-related Intellectual Property in Mongolia:

 

Mongolia's laws in the field of intellectual property rights are in conformity with the provisions of the Agreement on the Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), and Mongolia fully applies the provisions of the Agreement on TRIPS on the date of its accession to the WTO.
