Computing & Internet Diffusion 13

Overview

On a national scale, the level of the Internet diffusion in many areas of China remains low. Internet use is concentrated in large cities. Government plays a central role in Internet diffusion but pervasive penetration of the Internet can not be based on top-down regulation. A further challenge facing China is to remove the barriers and to build up a more favorable environment for Internet development, such as the freedom for information exchange, promoting the growth of the basic telecommunications market and Internet access market, and expanding access to infrastructure and service.
