Overview
On a national scale, the level of the Internet
diffusion in many areas of China remains low. Internet use is
concentrated in large cities. Government plays a central role in
Internet diffusion but pervasive penetration of the Internet can not be
based on top-down regulation. A further challenge facing China is to
remove the barriers and to build up a more favorable environment for
Internet development, such as the freedom for information exchange,
promoting the growth of the basic telecommunications market and Internet
access market, and expanding access to infrastructure and service.

The author’s note:
the above chart indicates that
Internet access is primary at home, and the low access percent of
“School” explains that the computer popularity at the school is still
very low.

The author’s note:
from the above statistics, 46.1%
of the Internet user’s primary goal for accessing the Internet is
getting the information, and Internet is becoming a more important tool
to communicate with the public. On the contrary, only 0.4% of Internet
users are using Internet for online shopping, which explains that
e-commerce in China is still plagued by consumer suspicious of online
security and a dearth of credit cards.
