Over the first three
years, the initial focus was to encourage, nurture and support the
small, medium and big companies undertaking software development
activity.
Worked very closely with Central Govt. and Tamil Nadu Govt. in
establishing about 9 satellite earth stations of medium, small and big
in nature across the state. It has played a vital part in encouraging
and promoting SMEs across the state. Today STPI Chennai has spread its
industry base across 9 districts of Tamil Nadu Viz., Coimbatore, Trichy,
Madurai, Thirunelveli, Salem, Vellore, Tirupur, Erode & Dindgul.
STPI Chennai has supported the Software Quality Institute (SQI) at
Chennai and other quality institutions and similar such organizations
with a aim to encourage quality deployment in Software Developmental
activities.
Continuous interaction with industry and academia through various
seminars, workshops has enabled the growth of industries in such a rapid
way. Coimbatore being a highly entrepreneurial place has developed
quickly as a second major place for software development, consequent to
STPI-Chennai becoming independent.
The union territory of Pondicherry, Andaman & Nicobar islands have been
brought under its jurisdiction of operation under chennai. STPI-Chennai
took it as yet another opportunity and established Satellite Earth
Station at Pondicherry, with the help of MCIT & Govt. of Pondicherry ,
which has been quickly growing.
Our endeavor is to support these industries further through Fiber Optic
Connectivity STPI Chennai is planning to undertake promotional activity
at Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
