Enterprise Software Sector

For many suppliers of enterprise systems, Poland is one of the most valuable markets in Central and Eastern Europe, as "the market in Poland is more than 50% larger than the market in Hungary and the Czech Republic combined." (1) The market, however, has reached a stage of stabilization, or as others put it, stagnation. Foreign investors are not, however, as discouraged with the ERP market, as they are with other technology sector investments. "According to various sources the total number of ERP systems implemented in Poland at the end of 2001 was around 1,600. Taking into consideration that there are approximately 3,500 companies employing over 250 people each in Poland means that over half of large companies already have an ERP system in Poland." (2)

The Polish Market Review, 2001, cites that ERP systems used within 500 companies surveyed are aimed toward Finances (92.6%), Sales and Distribution (69.7%), Supplies (68%), Controlling (50.3), Production (39.4%), Renovations (14.9%), and Other (40%). (3)

The results of the survey conducted by The Polish Market Review also indicated the key players in the ERP sector among Poland's largest enterprises: SAP R/3 (25%); IFS Applications (4%); QAD (4%); Baan (4%); JD Edwards (3%); GEAC/JBA (3%); Promis (3%); Intentia Movex (2%); Scala (2%); BPCS (2%), and; Oracle (2%). (4)

The report also stated that other than ERP implementations, support solutions implemented included Supply Chain Management, Customer Relationship Management, e-commerce solutions and data analysis solutions. (5)
