Literacy
Number of students in University and higher education institutions in 1995 was approximately 478,455 of which 145,353 were female students. Iran's literacy ratio for 1994/95 was at 92.2 percent. Data also shows that the gap between urban and rural literacy is closing.23

English Fluency
English is taught at many schools starting as early as primary education. The level of English skill is low although it is improving.

Computer Professionals
Data on computer/software professional was not available. As far as employment is concerned, 29 percent of population is working in the agriculture sector, 25 percent in the industrial sector, and 42 percent in the service sector. 24

Computer related higher education
All universities offer sophisticated engineering and computer science education. As part of the Seocnd Five Year
Development Plan government has set out many programs at the primary education level to inspire students to use computers.

Emigration and immigration of computer professionals
In recent years, government has made it easier for the generation who left the country to return to Iran. This group recieved
their training and education in the west. Many who have return are now teaching at the universities in Iran.

Trade Fair
Iran is active in organizing trade fair exhibitions in Tehran as well as the neighboring countries. Some 18 Iranian companies participated in Iran's Telecommunications Exhibition fair in Turkmenistan. 25
