Impact on non IT

Impact of Non IT global computing
Support of network infrastructure -availability, cost and quality
Malaysia is a country that has most of the prerequisites for attracting non IT business and supporting them with adequate infrastructure. There are no more duties on the importation of IT goods so that a company setting up in Malaysia would not be impacted by additional costs for duties. Phone, power and WAN connectivity are all in place, when these factors are coupled with the large pool of educated and skilled workers make Malaysia a truly competitive site.
IS professionals to support IS: training, cost and quality.
This is the one area that would pose a problem to a company locating to Malaysia. As stated before the real shortage of IT professionals makes them difficult to come by and they are not as likely to stay in Malaysia as other regions have more attractive opportunities. They are training programs in place that will stem the shortage but this is still a few years away. The most attractive alternative would be to hire someone and train them on the condition that they signed a long term contract.
Cases of Success and Failures
There are abundant cases of successes, as can be seen in the setting up of the many semiconductor and technology plants. Clearly the labor pool is shifting in Malaysia so businesses that require large amounts of cheap labor should look elsewhere, notably China and Vietnam. 17
