| January 22 | January 26 | Describe your studying rituals and environment. Are they effective? If not, how could you improve them? How have they changed since you've been in college? Set one goal for yourself this term in regard to your studying habits. |
| January 29 | Feruary 2 | Given today's discussion on the various intelligences, think about your own. What combination of intelligences do you think comprise your intellectual being? Be specific and use as many details as possible. |
| February 5 | February 9 | In "Brain Basics" the authors use the city as a metaphor for how the brain functions. If your brain were a city, what city would it be? Why? What specifically is it about that city that is similar to your brain? Its commerce, its culture, its size, its location? Think not just about how the city functions or whether not it's a city you "like," but also what people perceive of that city. |
| February 12 | February 16 | Spend some time reflecting on the first formal paper assignment. Think about these questions as you write your response: What did you learn? What do you wish you had done differently? What did you do just right? What would have made the assignment easier or better for you? If you could give advice to another student about to start this assignment, what advice would you give? What might you do differently for your next paper? |
| February 19 | February 23 | No E-journal assignment this week! |

| March 5 | March 9 | Reflect on your in-class essay. Was it a success or not? If so, why? Was it for internal reasons (your characteristics as a learner) or external ones (The topic or the venue). If not, why not? Again, think about the internal and external reasons. |
| March 26 | March 30 | Given your choice, what would you like your last formal paper to be? It needs to be researched based and it needs to be fairly substantial in length. We should try to keep it within the thematic concept for the class, and I'd like it be useful for you. So, given these parameters, give me your ideas for your final formal paper! |
| April 9 | April 13. | Today you were given a list of "reminders," those items that rule the submission of your next formal paper. Generally speaking, teaching by punishment-which this list essentially does-is not known to be effective. However, an alternative method to convey the issues brought up by these rules seems nearly impossible. How do you view the rule-type list distributed in class today? Do you find it to be a negative, neutral or positive method? Do you have suggestions for other ways to go about conveying the essence of these rules? Do you see drawbacks or pitfalls to either method, yours or the standard one? Spend some time reflecting on this issue. What you suggest could affect this and future classes. |
| April 16 | April 20 | Reflect on your group presentation. Specifically, talk about the group dynamics. Did youlike being placed in groups as opposed to forming your own group? Was this a good experience for you? If not, what would have made it better? If so, what was good about it? |
| April 23 | April 27 | Use your best metacognitive insights and write about the demands of your final formal essay. How will you meet those demands? What strategies, both rhetorically and otherwise, will you use to be successful for this paper? How might those strategies differ from those that you've used for other formal papers? |
