The Forebrain

Largest and most highly developed part of human brain
Consists primarily of cerebrum
Split in two hemispheres
Contains the Cerebrum

Controls some reflex actions
Partly responsible for voluntary movements

Sits atop the spinal cord
Brain stem
Cerebellum
Controls the body's vital functions

1. Cerebellum
- Sits at top of spinal column
- Controls vital bodily functions
- Responsible for learned rote movements, such as:
- playing the piano
- hitting a tennis ball
2. Cerebrum
- Holds your memories
- Allows you to plan
- Enables you to imagine and think
- Allows you to:
- recognize friends
- read books
- play games
3. Frontal Lobes
- Lie directly behind forehead
- Acts as short-term memory storage sites
- Responsible for:
- Schedulng
- Planning
- Reasoning
- Imagining
4. Motor Area
- Helps control voluntary movements
5. Broca's Area
- Allows thoughts to be transformed into words
6. Parietal Lobes
- Allow you to enjoy a good meal
- taste
- aroma
- texture of food
Back to brain diagram7. Sensory Areas
- Receive information about
- temperature
- taste
- touce
- movement
- Reading and arthimetric are also functions in the parietal lobes
8. Occipital Lobes
- Processes images from eyes
- Links information stored with images stored in memory
9. Temporal Lobes
- Responds to stimuli such as music
- Receives information from the ears
- Underside plays a crucial role in forming and retrieving memories
- Seems to integrate memories and sensations of taste, sound, sight and touch
The colored areas indicate what part of the brain is at work.
