AU Alumni Update

October 2004

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR ALUMNI BOARD PRESIDENT

Stewart Small '89 and Carey Earle '88Beginning with the generosity and elegance of the President's Circle dinner, this year's Homecoming & Reunion Weekend captured the spirit of AnewAU, our capital campaign. It was inspiring to see people coming together in service and support of the university and to celebrate everything that is unique about American University and the AU experience.

Through the light mist of a fall rain on Saturday (October 16), you could feel the energy of alums at the barbeque as they huddled around the apple cider, laughing and catching up.

Downtown at the Alumni Gala, our master of ceremonies, Derek McGinty, SOC/BA ’81, helped us honor two alumni who have contributed to the university community and the world around them, Jack Cassell, SOC/BA ’77, and C. Payne Lucas, SPA/MA ’61. Later in the evening, Mo Rocca filled the ballroom with laughter with his satirical and quirky brand of humor. It was a great weekend.

If you didn't make it this year, please join us next year for Homecoming & Reunion. And in the meantime, come back to campus and see the Katzen Arts Center taking form -- scheduled to be completed in spring 2005 and officially open next fall. Stay tuned as both SIS and SOC change the face of campus with their new buildings. It's never been a better time to reconnect and contribute to your alma mater.

Hope to see you at some alumni events this year.

Best,
Carey Earle, SOC/BA ’88
