| California, Georgia Alumni Celebrate AnewAU March and April have been busy months for President and Mrs. Ladner, as they have been making their way across the country visiting with alumni and friends to talk about the happenings at AU and proudly announcing the university's recent fund-raising milestone, surpassing the halfway mark of $100 million toward the $200 million AnewAU campaign goal. Nick Keating, SIS/BA '63, SIS/MA '64, and Carleen Keating, CAS/BA '64, graciously hosted the Ladners and a group of more than 40 alumni, parents, and friends, at their home in San Francisco.
"The San Francisco event with President Ladner was a huge success. What a great way for Bay Area alumni to connect with the university, and learn about the progress that AU has made," said Matt Kohler, SIS/BA '95, San Francisco chapter leader. "President Ladner's trip to California demonstrated his commitment to alumni everywhere, and helps to maintain that lifelong relationship with the university.” After the San Francisco event, the Ladners headed for Los Angeles where they greeted more than 90 alumni for an evening at the Regency Club, hosted by AU Trustee, Michael Forman. "I had no idea how much things had changed, and will be changing, on campus. It seems I went to college about 15 years too soon," said Andrew Garlikov, SIS/BA '92, Los Angeles chapter leader. On April 6, the Ladners visited Atlanta alumni at the home of Steven Saferin, SOC/BA ’70, and his wife, Linda. “It was an honor and a pleasure to host this event and have Dr. and Mrs. Ladner at our home. What was more special was to share this event with AU alums in the Atlanta area," he said. Saferin's daughter, Amanda, currently attends AU.
Jeanne Wallace Potter, SOC/BA '68, who attended the Atlanta reception, felt the event captured the essence of what makes American University stand out. "I came away from our Atlanta gathering remembering what attracted me to AU so long ago as a student: the people, the place, the vibrancy." -Mary Skinner | |||||
