Campus Prepares for Alumni Weekend The Saturday afternoon picnic, a standard weekend favorite, will take place in the Woods-Brown Amphitheater in conjunction with the Family Weekend picnic. Bring your entire family for great food and live entertainment. "We are really excited about the opportunity to hold these events simultaneously. Alumni and families bring such great energy to the campus — this is a great chance to bring them together," said Vanessa Yost, director of alumni programs. Other events include a luncheon in the honor of AU's newest generation of Golden Eagles — the Class of 1955, walking tours of campus and the new Katzen Arts Center, breakfast with the Deans, a 5K race to benefit Habitat for Humanity, and a community service project. The highlight of the weekend will be Cocktails and Conversation hosted Saturday night in the Katzen Arts Center. Tour the stunning new gallery, enjoy a performance by D.C.’s own comedy troupe, Capitol Steps (admission to the Capitol Steps is limited to the first 400 individuals who RSVP), enjoy a glass of wine while listening to jazz vocalist Libby York, SPA/BA '66, or just relax and mingle with old friends. Cocktails and Conversation has something for everyone and truly celebrates the opening of one of AU’s most unique and exciting buildings," says Vanessa Yost, director of Alumni Programs. The evening will also honor the 2005 Alumni Achievement Award Winner, Lonnie Bunch, CAS/BA '74, CAS/MA '76. In March of 2005, Bunch was named by the Smithsonian Institution as founding director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
