| Young Alums Usher in Holiday Season with Snowflake Shindig
Dozens of alumni turned out at the Dupont Circle hotspot Ozio for the Young Alumni Chapter’s Third Annual Snowflake Shindig and Silent Auction earlier this month. The December 6 event brought together AU friends for catching up and some early shopping during this busy time of year. Along with tasty appetizers and martini specials, shindig attendees submitted their bids for dozens of silent auction items which were collected by YAC members and AU’s new assistant director of Alumni Programs, Tara Sherwin. Auction items included tickets to an upcoming performance of the Washington Ballet, gift certificates to Clyde’s of Georgetown, tickets to performances at Arena Stage and the Folger Theatre, portrait sittings at Freed Photography, season passes to AU’s men’s and women’s basketball games, a one-year membership to Zipcar, and many more. Nearly $400 was raised and will go toward the AU Alumni Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to an incoming freshman student whose parents or grandparents attended AU. “Ozio proved an excellent choice of venue,” said Sherwin. In years past, the group has tried to select a party location to both capture the energetic vibe of Washington, D.C., and boast an address easily accessible for alumni across the D.C. area. Located on M Street, just a few blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro, Ozio fit the bill perfectly. Alums gathered in the Brick Room, a private second-floor meeting space with fireplaces, cozy booth seating, and festive holiday décor. “The space provided an intimate atmosphere for good conversation and competitive bidding on the variety of great silent auction items,” added Sherwin. Rachel
Tabakman, SPA/BA ’03, the YAC secretary, thoroughly enjoyed
the event: “The Snowflake Shindig was, as it always is, a good time
to catch up with old friends and meet new people you may not have met
otherwise. It was great to see what everyone was up to, and the fun auction
items definitely made my holiday shopping a little bit easier!” |
