June-July 2005
We've been waiting... Drivers and passersby have traveled past Ward Circle for nearly four years now, watching the corner change from the old Cassell gym, to a pile of rubble, to a big hole, to a building rising methodically, beautifully. Well, friends, it's done! The Katzen Arts Center, with its polished concrete floor, high ceilings that let the sunlight stream in, long grand corridors, dozens of classrooms and offices, studios, a theatre, and even a kiln, now has art in it - and people, too. And you can be one of them!
As someone who came to AU four years ago and has watched the entire process unfold, seeing the building open is akin to seeing a student graduate; I'm excited, rooting for its future success. I hope you'll get back to campus soon to check out the entire building - from its interesting architecture to the eclectic art inside and out. As is so often the case with AU, there's truly something for everyone.
All the best-
-Melissa Reichley
