| Miami Alumni Plan Hot Year Ahead
South Florida alumni get ready, because the Miami alumni chapter is planning a variety of activities to engage and entertain alumni throughout the upcoming year. After the success of the AnewAU campaign events in Palm Beach and Miami, volunteers have been eagerly offering their assistance to plan and promote alumni events in the area. On Wednesday, May 11, alumni gathered at the home of Chad Hankin, SPA/BA ’94, to brainstorm what sort of events area alumni might like to attend. “We are looking at doing several different events, including social activities, community service projects, cultural events, etc. I’m looking forward to meeting many other AU alumni during the coming months,” said Beth Morgan, SIS/BA ’79. Possible events include a tour of Fairchild Tropical Gardens, attending (and tailgating at) a Marlins game, wine tastings, hosting an event with other Miami alumni who attended D.C. colleges and universities, among other possibilities. "As South Florida, Miami in particular, experiences growth and redevelopment, I expect the same for the Miami Chapter. Our first goal is to reach out to the AU community here by developing programming activities around city special events and addressing the needs of our communities," said new Miami chapter leader, Carl Hildebrand, SIS/MA ’02. A summer send-off for Miami area incoming freshman has been planned for Wednesday, August 3rd at the home of Chad Hankin. "My wife Paulie and I hosted the summer send-off last year and it was such a rewarding experience. It's the perfect opportunity for students and their parents to get the scoop on AU - what to bring, where to get the best pizza, etc.,” said Hankin. Please check the Alumni Web site in the next month for full details on the summer send-off. If you have any ideas for future alumni events or want to get more involved, please contact Carl Hildebrand at 863-602-7322.
