Mark Your Calendar for Alumni Weekend 2006

October may seem far off, but plans are already under way for Alumni Weekend 2006. This year’s celebration will keep many of the traditional events that alumni have enjoyed year after year, but will also premiere some new programs that promise to be fun and engaging. For the second year in a row, the weekend will be held in conjunction with AU’s Family Weekend, October 20-22, serving only to heighten the AU spirit on campus. With luncheons and barbeques, tours and sporting events, reunions and cocktail receptions, there’s a little something for everyone at this year’s celebration.

As always, the Golden Eagles – alumni from the Class of 1956 and earlier – can look forward to a day of special events on Friday, October 20. The day will feature the Golden Eagle Luncheon, held for the second time in the Abramson Family Recital Hall in the beautiful Katzen Arts Center. Graduates from the Class of 1956, celebrating their 50th class reunion, will be honored as our newest Golden Eagles, and all attendees will enjoy a student performance, as well as a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Katzen Art Center.

Reunion celebrations will continue that evening, as the Classes of 1981, 1996, and 2001 commemorate their milestone reunions with private parties. Alumni from each of these classes will have the opportunity to meet up again at specially designated areas at the AU Picnic on Saturday afternoon. They will also be recognized at the “Movers and Shakers” all-alumni cocktail reception that evening. For the first time, Alumni Programs will be offering alumni from these reunions a special discount ticket package, which will include tickets to the class reunion party, the AU Picnic, and the “Movers and Shakers” reception.

The always-popular AU Picnic will be held on Saturday, October 21. This is the perfect time for AU alumni, current students, and their families to mix and mingle over a delicious gourmet barbeque. With live music and games for children, the picnic promises to remain a great family event.

Of course, Alumni Weekend wouldn’t be complete without the all-alumni celebration on Saturday evening. This year’s “Movers and Shakers” cocktail reception will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in downtown Washington, D.C. The event will feature presentation of the annual alumni awards, live music and entertainment, and plenty of food and drink. This year’s program will also include a host committee of past alumni award winners, all of whom are outstanding “movers and shakers” contributing back to the local, national, and global communities in significant ways. Attendees will have the chance to network and socialize with these alumni throughout the evening.

These events are just a few of the highlights of Alumni Weekend 2006. Mark your calendars now – you won’t want to miss it!
