December
2006
As
mentioned last month, the university has officially kicked off its
search for a new
president. The
Alumni Board has been extremely impressed to see the Board of Trustees
and the Search Committee making extensive outreach efforts to the
entire AU community. On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Alumni
Board members joined BoT chair Gary Abramson ’68,
for dinner with the executive search firm hired to lead the search.
This dinner offered us the opportunity to give our sense of what
qualities the search firm should be looking for in our next president.
It was a very open, informative, and constructive dinner. Rest assured,
we’ll represent the interests of AU alumni as the process
unfolds and pass along any updates we receive. The Board
of Trustees Web site will always be the best source of the latest
information on the search, so be sure to check it often.
As
the holidays approach, consider a couple of great gift ideas! AU’s
Campus Store has plenty of items to satisfy even the pickiest people
on your holiday list. Now through Dec. 20, all alumni, mom, and
dad apparel is 30 percent off. Stop by if you're in the area, or
check out the selection of items available online at http://american.bkstr.com.
If you order by noon on Dec. 20 and choose next day air, you can
have your order in time for Christmas. You can place phone order
at 202-885-6322.
If
you’re stuck with what to get the person who has everything,
why not make a donation in their name to AU? Instead of buying them
socks they don’t need, or a sweater they’d never wear,
you’ll be helping to build the future of AU. It’s never
been easier to give; just go online:
www.giving.american.edu.
Sincerely,
Brian Keane, SPA/BA '89
P.S.
Remember, a dedicated
e-mail address has been set up for anyone who wants to nominate
candidates for AU president or offer comments about the search,
so if you know of anyone who could or should be AU’s next
president, don’t hesitate to nominate him or her for the job!
