Annual Rankings Highlight AU’s National Presence

AU’s politically active students have been named the proudest and loudest in all the land. The Princeton Review recently published its 2007 college rankings and AU is the No. 1 most politically active campus - above Princeton, GW, and Harvard, also in the top 10.

“There is a huge amount of contention between the liberals and conservatives on campus. The conservatives walk around like high and mighty warriors of truth, and the liberals walk around like they're saving the world from the conservatives,” an AU student is quoted in the review. Student views range the gamut of political parties, so while elephants and donkeys are the most prominent, the libertarians and other independent groups also have a strong voice on campus.

AU also tied for the No. 62 spot in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings for the percent of students who study abroad, currently at 45 percent. The publication also released its rankings for the “National Universities” category, with AU tying SUNY—Binghamton at 86th. AU has come a long way since its rank as 122nd more than 10 years ago, or even 99th in 2003.

The Kogod School of Business continues to establish itself in national rankings as well. Researchers from Western Kentucky University released a top 25 list ranking universities based on the number of articles published in respected finance journals. The findings from the study, published in the Advances in Financial Education journal, ranked Kogod 17th among the most influential institutions in financial education.

While the study was being conducted, AU authors published 12 articles in the respective field. “Kogod’s Department of Finance and Real Estate has distinguished itself as one of the major contributors in the financial education literature,” says H. Kent Baker, a finance professor who coauthored many of the published articles.

Over the summer, Kogod was ranked the 37th most influential real estate institution in the Real Estate Economics journal, a top publication in its field. The report was compiled by researchers from Mississippi State University and Western Kentucky University.

We’ll keep you updated as AU climbs the charts.
