As alumni we often assume the only way we can give back to the university is by making a financial donation. While that's definitely one important way each of us can help advance our alma mater, it's certainly not the only way. At our most recent meeting of the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, we identified and created a number of key projects designed to foster alumni involvement. If you’ve ever thought about giving back to AU, now is the time:
- Become a part of “ Alumni University” and offer your expertise as a guest lecturer in an AU class. Give us your name and bio and we’ll include it in a directory the Alumni Board is compiling, to be shared with the AU deans and professors.
- Be a more active part of AU from your desktop. AU's inCircle's online community already has more than 4,250 active members and is fast becoming the best way to network with old friends, find new ones, and even help your company hire the best candidates – who also just happen to be AU alumni! Log on to incircle.alumni.american.edu
- Help raise funds for alumni scholarships. The Alumni Board is launching an effort to build up several scholarship awards. Fund-raising efforts like this will continue to give voice to the Alumni Association – and more importantly be a real example of AU’s continued success. Visit giving.american.edu
With such a tremendous amount of opportunity for involvement at all levels, I hope you’ll join me and become a part of AU’s future.
Cheers,

Brian F. Keane, SPA/BA '89
P.S. In last month's story about the success of SOC in producing PSAs, we accidentally omitted some important information. The high-def public service announcement, Save Rainforests Save Lives, currently airing across the country about the connection between the health of the rainforests and our own health, was created and executive produced by Joan Murray of the Wallace Genetic Foundation in conjunction with SOC’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking and VideoTakes, Inc.
