Hamlet and I Hate Hamlet: Two Plays, One Theatre, This MonthDo you remember the first time you read Hamlet? You loved it, you hated it, you laughed, you cried. It may not be a story of teenage love and longing like Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, but it is a classic with an engaging plot. If you disagree, go see I Hate Hamlet at the Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre. This AU production takes place in modern-day New York and follows a TV soap opera star as he prepares for his role of Hamlet at Shakespeare in the Park. This comedy, directed by Carl Menninger, was written by Paul Rudnik, who also wrote the films The Stepford Wives, In and Out, and Addams Family Values. I Hate Hamlet opens on Feb. 14 and will keep crowds laughing until Feb. 24. If you go on Feb. 13 you'll enjoy a reduced price preview. Running
concurrently with Rudnik’s play will be Hamlet,
with a twist. Directed by Karl Kippola, Shakespeare’s famous play
will challenge expectations and assumptions of gender. Hamlet’s
reduced price preview day is on Feb. 7 and will open on Feb. 8, also running
through Feb. 24. |
