March
2007
Within days, high school seniors across the nation will be opening letters from the AU Admissions office. Their hearts will be aflutter and their parents will be hovering as they rip open these envelopes that tell them whether or not they will spend the next four years of their lives at AU. I certainly remember those days. My sympathies are with those young men and women who are struggling with the angst that each of these letters brings. But should they be so lucky to be accepted to AU – and should they be so wise as to accept – they will ultimately join the ranks of our special group – AU alumni.
I find myself increasingly proud of the work of our alumni. This month I am particularly proud that the entire AU Alumni Board committed to become part of the “President’s Circle.” That means each member of the Board has committed to make a gift of at least $1,000 to the university. This commitment is no small deal and helps build upon the stature and the relevance that the Alumni Board – and all of us – have with the university.
Also, since last month, we’ve received a tremendous response to our “ Alumni University” initiative. It’s been incredibly gratifying to see so many alums offering their talents to today’s students. We’re currently compiling all the responses so we can market our new “ Alumni University” to the deans and faculty this summer. We should be ready to hit the ground running as the class of 2011 begins in the fall! It’s not too late to volunteer your expertise, either. To become one of our alumni experts willing to talk to today’s AU students, e-mail me and we’ll add you to our list.
In the meantime, take time to visit campus and take a stroll across the quad. Call me. Bring a friend and show off if you want! You’ll be impressed.
Sincerely,
Brian F. Keane, SPA/BA '89
