Kogod Alumni Discuss Trends, Deliver Donation at D.C. "Generations" Event More than 60 Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, “Gen-Xers,” and Millennials gained some insight into each others’ strengths and weaknesses at last week’s “Generations @ Work” annual event, hosted by the Kogod Alumni Chapter at the National Press Club. The Kogod alumni event, presented by Steelcase, Inc., and held “for alumni, by alumni” on Wednesday, February 28, brought together alumni and friends to discuss the way different generations interact within the workplace. Before the presentation even began, the event got off to an exciting start when the evening’s moderator, Kogod senior associate dean for Academic Affairs Kathleen Getz, and organizers, 2006 Kogod Alumni Board Cochairs Gregg Brown, KSB/MBA '01 and Laurie Lieberman, KSB/BSBA ’86, invited Kogod Dean Richard Durand to the podium. They presented the dean with a check for $16,000 raised from fellow alumni toward the $25,000 needed to name a room in the Kogod building. “This is about more than the naming of a room, it’s about giving back to the school and helping create a legacy,” shared Lieberman. “What a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation for our Kogod experiences. When we first embarked on this effort, the financial goal seemed a bit daunting. We were blown away by how quickly our fellow alumni wanted to get involved and their generosity.” Lieberman, who has been working in the contract office furniture industry since her junior year at AU, is an A&D (Architecture & Design) market manager for Steelcase, Inc., based in Grand Rapids, Mich. Since graduating from Kogod, she has also been active as a judge for the Case Competition and was the alumni flag bearer at the May 2006 graduation. Lieberman had a hand in spreading the generosity to her fellow alums, too. Steelcase donated a cool ergonomic chair to a raffle for the event, and Mike Wagner, KSB/MBA '05, was announced as the proud winner. Brown, who was a part-time MBA student while employed at GVA Advantis as a real estate broker, is also no stranger to helping plan AU events. While at AU, he served on the Case Competition committee and helped organize a golf tournament for graduating MBA students, alumni, and faculty. Since graduating from Kogod, he has remained active by serving as a guest panelist and hosting an MBA intern at GVA Advantis. Recently, Brown accepted the position of vice president at Grubb & Ellis Company. Kogod leaders hope the excitement generated at this year's “Generations @ Work” event will carry over to next year’s event, though Lieberman must step down from her Kogod Alumni Board duties due to a move to New Jersey for work. However, Casey Dannen, KSB/BSBA '00, KSB/MS '01 will be filling what she calls “big shoes.” The Kogod Alumni Board continues to meet bimonthly on campus.
