August 2008

It may only be August, but it’s definitely not too early to start thinking about Alumni Weekend 2008.  When was the last time you were on campus? So much has changed here since we were students – and Alumni Weekend 2008 is the perfect time to see not only what’s changed, but WHO’S changed.

This year, Alumni Weekend will be held October 24 -26. As always, we’ll have class reunion celebrations, school and college receptions, a chance to take a class with some of the best professors at AU, and the family picnic with great food and music.

If you only have time for one event, come to the Port & Politics reception on Saturday, where we’ll honor the 2008 alumni award winners. Join us for drinks and hors d’oeuvres at the reception, then head over to Bender Arena for the KPU event of the season: “They’ll Take Your Questions Now: Views from Behind the Podium,” a panel with former White House press secretaries, Dee Dee Myers, Mike McCurry, and Ari Fleischer, moderated by our very own Betsy Fischer, SPA/BA ’92, SOC/MA ’96, executive producer of Meet the Press.

Between our new alumnus university president; the largest freshman class in AU’s history; a No. 1 ranking for most politically active campus; an all-star basketball team; and the many exciting construction changes under way on campus right now, there’s never been a better time to return to AU.  So call up your old AU friends, book your hotel now, and plan to join us for Alumni Weekend 2008.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Brian F. Keane, SPA-SOC/BA '89

P.S. Thanks everyone for your Strategic Planning e-mails and phone calls offering ideas and insights into how we can help ensure that AU continues to be a great university.  We anticipate sharing a draft of the plan in the next few months.  I’m really excited about how this is moving forward – I think you will be too!
