WAMU's The Kojo Nnamdi Show Joins XM Radio’s “The Power” Beginning Feb. 11, 2008, WAMU 88.5’s The Kojo Nnamdi Show joined XM Radio as part of the satellite radio service’s line-up for “The Power” (XM Channel 169), the nation’s only 24-hour radio channel exclusively dedicated to African-American talk programming. The Kojo Nnamdi Show will air at 7 p.m., and 11 p.m., weekdays on “The Power.” “I’m excited about the prospect of joining a lineup that includes several longtime friends like Joe Madison and Tavis Smiley,” Nnamdi said. “More importantly, what listeners will notice is how different our shows all are. The Kojo Nnamdi Show blends elements of art, culture and foreign affairs with the political issues that concern us all.” Kojo Nnamdi joins well-known public broadcasting host Tavis Smiley in the expanded lineup for “The Power,” which also includes new shows featuring Blanche Williams and the sports talk radio duo, The 2 Live Stews. “The Power” already broadcasts top shows featuring hosts Joe Madison, the Reverend Al Sharpton, and Warren Ballantine. A complete programming schedule for “The Power,” including show descriptions and times, is available online. “XM is proud to be the home of ‘The Power,’ which is the only national radio platform devoted to African-American talk,” said Kevin Straley, SVP of Talk Programming for XM. “These new shows underscore XM’s commitment to providing a deep selection of diverse programming for listeners nationwide.” The Kojo Nnamdi Show, a production of WAMU 88.5, covers current events, political issues, social policy, art, science, and a host of other topics. Nnamdi, a native of Guyana and a longtime Washington broadcast personality, lends a global perspective to front page headlines, explores emerging stories before they become mainstream news, and provides guests a platform to discuss unique topics and new points of view. His two-hour show airs on WAMU 88.5 in Washington, D.C., at noon, Mondays-Thursdays. On “The Power,” XM will broadcast one hour devoted to topics of national interest from each WAMU 88.5 broadcast. The Kojo Nnamdi Show is made available to XM through American Public Radio, a partnership that includes Minneapolis-based network Public Radio International, Chicago Public Radio®, WGBH Radio Boston and WNYC, New York Public Radio®. -Alumni Update |
