June-July 2008
“What would make AU a greater university?”
That was the question posed to us all at a recent meeting of the AU Strategic Planning Steering Committee. On the surface, it seems like an easy question. But upon reflection, it really is a deep and even philosophical one.
Should we strive to be the “Harvard on the Potomac”? Should we create a worldwide brand that’s synonymous with excellence in education and service? Or are the secrets to a greater university more mundane than that? Is it about “making the trains run on time,” better dorms, and/or more frequent shuttle bus service?
These are among the questions being discussed by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee. And your answers to these questions will help us guide AU to greatness over the next 10 years.
Drop me an e-mail, and tell me what you think we need to do to achieve greatness. No idea is too big or too small. Let me know your thoughts, and I’ll be sure to share them with the steering committee.
Brian F. Keane
Sincerely,
Brian F. Keane, SPA-SOC/BA '89
P.S. They say the economy is in recession, but you’d never believe it by walking across campus today. There’s construction all over – from the new SIS building to the renovation of the Mary Graydon entrance to the Kogod building. It’s really exciting to see it all – clearly a sign that “great” things are happening at AU! |
