“You, our alumni, are the most persuasive and impressive evidence of the power of this institution; the best examples for our students of what awaits them if they take what this institution has to give…
With all their differences, our alumni have one crucial thing in common. Individually and collectively you can change this university's future in profound and positive ways. Already generous with time, information, and funds, I will ask you to do more. But this familiar request comes with a special promise – We will build one of the finest alumni organizations in higher education."
When Dr. Neil Kerwin spoke these words in his Inaugural Address on February 8th, it confirmed to me that there is a new day dawning at AU. Dr. Kerwin is the first AU alumnus to be elevated to the position of president, and with one of our own at the helm, it is clear AU is entering a new and exciting frontier.
Dr. Kerwin has dedicated his life to AU – and he has made a commitment to AU alumni that he will work tirelessly to increase the value of our degrees – and the reputation of our alma mater. With that commitment, there's an implicit challenge to all of us as alumni: We must rededicate ourselves to the “cause” of American University. With our energy, our enthusiasm, our spirit, and our hard work, we will help AU realize its full potential.
Join us now in helping AU grow and flourish under this new administration. Call me or e-mail me – and let’s get you involved in our Alumni Association – and AU’s very promising future.
Sincerely,
Brian F. Keane, SPA-SOC/BA '89 |
