October 2008

It’s still not too late to join us for Alumni and Family Weekend this coming weekend, Oct. 24-26.  Take a moment to go online and sign up for some of the great events. If nothing else, be sure to join us for the Port & Politics reception on Saturday evening. We’ll be honoring our 2008 Alumni Award recipients, Ronald Boots Nissenbaum '68; U.S. Rep. James McGovern '81, '84; and Carmen Iezzi '00, '01. These three alumni embody the very best in spirit and service. I hope you’ll come join me in toasting them!

Speaking of service, the nominating process is still open for you to give back to AU by becoming part of the Alumni Board. We’re looking for alumni who want to contribute their time, energy, and enthusiasm to help us expand the breadth and scope of the Alumni Association. Drop me an e-mail to nominate yourself or someone you know.  We have a wealth of exciting plans for the coming year, so if you have the time, talent, and inclination, we’d love to have you be a part of it.

Finally, if you haven’t already done so, I hope you’ll bookmark the Alumni Web site at http://alumni.american.edu. We have a slew of events coming up in the coming months and we’d love you to be a part of them.  Whether you can join us for the Holiday Party on campus, or attend an event in your hometown, it’s all on the Web site, so check back often.

Sincerely,

Brian F. Keane, SPA-SOC/BA '89

P.S. Your input into the Strategic Planning process over the past months has been invaluable. We’re rapidly moving forward on key aspects of this plan.  For more details, go to http://american.edu/strategicplan
