September 2008
School’s back in session…and boy is it busy!
This semester, we welcomed the largest freshman class ever at AU, with some 1,580 first-year students reporting to campus. The class comes from 45 states and 53 countries, and its average GPA is 3.78. It’s a pretty impressive group – and it speaks to the real renaissance that AU is undergoing.
Speaking of progress, if you haven’t yet had a chance to take a look at the Draft Strategic Plan we’ve been working on throughout the summer, now’s the time. This draft outlines the basic “themes” under which we will ultimately lay out the goals and action steps that we will implement. While this draft plan is far from complete, it represents a significant step along the way toward creating a Strategic Plan that will carry AU through the next decade. So take a look and stay engaged. We’re entering a critical stage now with the Strategic Planning Process, so your input will be more important than ever.
Also, as I mentioned last month, Alumni and Family Weekend is fast approaching. This year promises to be one of the exciting Alumni Weekends ever! Take a sec to register now if you haven’t already. And if you have already registered, take a moment to e-mail a few of your long lost AU friends to join us.
Last but not least, the Alumni Board is looking for some new members. If you have a sincere interest in dedicating some real time and effort to AU, then we want to talk with you.
Happy fall!
Sincerely,
Brian F. Keane, SPA-SOC/BA '89
