Using Mass Transportation
in Washington DC
Below
are suggested ways to get to American University using the Metro System from
our 3 area airports. Metro in DC refers to both the bus and rail system. You
may find it helpful to use Metro's trip planner located on their homepage.

by train or bus to American University.

From Reagan National Airport:
Take either Metro's Yellow or Blue
Line from Washington National Airport Station towards Mt Vernon Sq -
Convention Center.
Transfer to Metro's Red Line at Gallery Place-Chinatown station heading
towards Shady Grove.
Exit the Metro car at the Tenleytown-AU station.
Proceed up the first two sets of escalators and then left on to a third
se t of escalators out of the station. Walk straight ahead towards the
road and wait for the American University shuttle to bring you to campus.

From Dulles International Airport:
Take the Washington Flyer Coach Service
bus from the airport to the West Falls Church Metro
station.
Take Metro's Orange Line from West
Falls Church-VT/UVA station heading towards New Carrollton.
Transfer to the Red Line at Metro Center station heading towards Shady
Grove.
Exit the Metro car at the Tenleytown-AU
station.
Proceed up the first two sets of escalators and then left on to a third
se t of escalators out of the station. Walk straight ahead towards the
road and wait for the American University shuttle to bring you to campus.

From Baltimore/Washington
International Airport:
Take the Amtrak train or the MARK
train from the airport to Union Station.
Take Metro's Red Line from Union
Station heading towards Shady Grove.
Exit the Metro car at the Tenleytown-AU
station.
Proceed up the first two sets of escalators and then left on to a third
set of escalators out of the station. Walk straight ahead towards the
road and wait for the American University shuttle to bring you to campus.
OR
Take Metro's B30 bus towards Greenbelt Metro Station.
Take Metro's Green Line to Fort Totten Metro Station and transfer to
the Red Line.
Exit the Metro car at the Tenleytown-AU station.
Proceed up the first two sets of escalators and then left on to a third
set of escalators out of the station. Walk straight ahead towards the
road and wait for the American University shuttle to bring you to campus.

Traveling
to American University by Train or Bus?

Taking
Amtrak:
The Amtrak
train travels from a variety of locations to Washington DC. The train
will bring you to Union Station in DC.
Once at Union Station, take Metro's
Red Line heading towards Shady Grove.
Exit the Metro car at the Tenleytown-AU
station.
Proceed up the first two sets of escalators and then left on to a
third set of escalators out of the station. Walk straight ahead towards
the road and wait for the American University shuttle to bring you
to campus.

Taking
a Greyhound Bus:
The Greyhound
Bus Terminal in Washington D.C. is located at 1005 1st St NE in
DC directly behind Union Station, on Metrorail's
Red Line.
Once at Union Station, take Metro's
Red Line heading towards Shady Grove.
Exit the Metro car at the Tenleytown-AU
station.
Proceed up the first two sets of escalators and then left on to a
third set of escalators out of the station. Walk straight ahead towards
the road and wait for the American University shuttle to bring you
to campus.
