You will move into your residence hall according to the program you will be participating in. We suggest moving in and getting settled at least one day prior to the program you will be participating in:

When you Arrive for Move-in
please follow the below directions

Letts, Anderson, Centenial Residence Halls
Recommended for Access to South Campus Residence Halls: Students entering the Fletcher Gate from Rockwood Parkway should turn right at the first stop sign. Go straight ahead to the next stop sign and turn left. Proceed approximately 100 yards and turn left to the residence halls to unload.

Students entering the Glover Gate from Massachusetts Avenue should proceed on the main roadway past Bender Arena (on the right), through the Tunnel, and up the hill to a stop sign where you will turn right. Proceed around the roadway past the Child Development Center playground. Turn left at the stop sign and proceed past the Public Safety Building and turn Left behind Letts residence hall. Go straight ahead to the next stop sign and turn left. Proceed approximately 100 yards and turn left to the residence halls to unload.

Hughes, McDowell, and Leonard Residence Halls
Recommended for Access to North Campus Residence Halls: Students entering the Glover Gate from Massachusetts Avenue should proceed straight ahead to Hughes Hall which will be on your right. For McDowell Hall and Leonard Hall proceed to the first roadway on your right and turn right. Go up the hill bearing right towards the President's Office Building (house on the hill). McDowell Hall is on your left and Leonard Hall is just past McDowell Hall. Park in the areas indicated.

Students entering the Fletcher Gate from Rockwood Parkway should proceed straight ahead through the first stop sign past the Public Safety Building on your left to the next stop sign (residence halls on your right). Proceed on the roadway around to the second stop sign and turn left. Go through the tunnel past McDonalds on your right up the hill. Hughes Hall will be on the left at the top of the hill. For McDowell Hall turn left at the next intersection on your left. Go up the hill bearing right towards the President's Office Building (house on the hill). McDowell Hall is on your left and Leonard Hall is just past McDowell Hall. Park in the areas indicated.

If you are unable to attend a New Student Orientation program in June or July, we strongly encourage you to participate in the First Yera Fundamentals orientation program on August 17-18, 2009. More information about this program will be mailed out in mid- to late-July.

New first year students read the Freshman Service Experience (FSE) Orientation or the First Year Fundamentals invitation letters. A copy of this letter will be mailed to the home address of all new students who do not attend a summer orientation program in mid July. If you are participating in FSE you will not be able to register for First Year Fundamentals.

New transfer students read the Transfer Transitions brochure that was mailed to your home address on a rolling basis depending on when your deposit was paid.

Students register yourself on-line using your New Student Checklist on the my.american.edu web portal. Our registration site works best when using Internet Explorer. Remember that your registration is not confirmed unless you receive an email confirmation to your AU email address. Please note, if you have previously registered for a program, you will need to call our office at 202-885-3303 to update your record.

Parents and family members of new first year students who were unable to attend a summer NSO are invited to participate in our Parent and Family Orientation program on Monday, August 17 through Tuesday, August 18. Registration is required and will be available in Mid July.
