Please note that this is a sample program schedule only. You will receive your actual schedule when you arrive at Check-in.
This schedule is intended to provide you with an idea of what your day will look like as well as how to plan your travel arrangements to and from Orientation.

Check in with orientation staff and receive your name badge, program schedule, and reusable water bottle for use throughout the next two days.

University Welcome

Parent and Family Transitions
Mary Graydon Center, Rooms 3-5
Join the Associate Dean of Students for a session on your student’s transition to college. This session brings a unique perspective to what it’s like to be a new student at American University.

11:00 a.m.
Housing and Dining Programs
Mary Graydon Center, Rooms 3-5
Join the Executive Director of Housing and Dining Programs as he brings you important information about student life in the residence halls, dining options, and laundry. Yes, laundry.

Lunch

Student Health Center

Join the Director of the Student Health Center to learn about the Student Health Insurance Plan, the Tuition Refund Plan, and compliance with the District of Columbia’s immunization requirements.

1:45 p.m.
Public Safety on Campus and in DC
Mary Graydon Center, Rooms 3-5
You will hear from Public Safety officers about services and resources available to help keep your student safe.

2:30 p.m.
Technology at AU
Mary Graydon Center, Rooms 3-5
This session will offer you a comprehensive overview of AU’s technology environment.

3:30 p.m.
Break
Take a break with Honest Tea and Cliff Bars on the Quad! This is a great chance to meet up with your student.

4:00 p.m.
Navigating AU
Mary Graydon Center, Rooms 3-5
Staff members from Financial Aid, Student Accounts, the Office of the Registrar, and AU advisors will provide you with information to help you work effectively with university administrators.

4:30 p.m.
Career Center

Join the Executive Director for an energetic overview of all that our great Career Center has to offer.

Q and A with Current Students

Join our New Student Programs Coordinators for a student perspective on life at AU.

Faculty Coffee Hour
Join us after dinner to hear from one of American University’s fine faculty members. Faculty bios will be located at the TDR Information table during each meal. Refreshments will be served.
