When should I plan to Arrive in August?
Why
should I register for Transfer Transitions?
As a transfer student, you've already experienced college
life and you know what to expect. You're familiar with the work load, you
know what most professors expect, and you know how important it is to get
involved on campus. Transfer Transitions is an orientation program designed
specifically with transfer students in mind. The program offers you a chance
to meet other new transfer students, ask questions of AU staff members, get
to know campus, and accomplish important tasks before classes begin so that
you feel comfortable when you arrive in August.

receives your tuition deposit. If you do not receive this information with
2 weeks of sending the University your deposit, please contact New Student
Programs at 202-885-3303 or email at orientation@american.edu.

How
do I use the New Student Checklist on my.american.edu?
If you haven't already created your my.american.edu
portal account, you'll need to visit my.american.edu
to do so. You'll receive important information from AU at your new AU
e-mail address. The portal is also used for class registration, checking your
grades, even paying your bill! It's the best way for students to get important
information about their student account, grades, weather, and AU news.
Once you've logged on using your username and password, click on Activities and Events in the gray bar on the right side of your screen. Then click on New Student Checklist under the Personalized Links.
You can use the checklist to accomplish certain tasks on the portal and to get more information about how to accomplish others. You can also keep track of things that you’ve done by clicking on the box next to an item.

Where
do I send the photo for my AU ID card?
You can submit your own electronic photo for your student
ID card using the New Transfer Student Checklist on the my.american.edu portal.
In order for us to have your ID card ready at your Transfer Transitions session,
we must receive your photo at least three business days before your orientation
session. To send us your photo, log on to the my.american.edu student portal
and click on the button marked Activities and Events on the right
side of the screen. Then click on Student Checklists under Personalized
Links. Click on New Transfer Student Checklist and then on Submit
a photo electronically for your AU Student ID card and follow the instructions.
If you do not submit your photo prior to Transfer Transitions, we still encourage
you to do so. Even though you won't get your ID card at your session, we will
have it ready for you in August when you move in. Submitting your picture
electronically will save you the time and inconvenience of standing in line
to get your picture taken on campus. Please contact Housing and Dining Programs
at 202 885 3370 with any questions.
