Getting Ready for Transfer Transitions

Transfer Transitions is designed to welcome new transfer students to American University. During Transfer Transitions, you will learn about academics and campus life at American University, while meeting other new students as well as current AU students who will help you acclimate to the university. In addition to meeting with your advisor and finalizing your course schedule you will learn your way around campus, take necessary placement exams, receive your AU ID Card and much, much more. By the time you leave Transfer Transitions, you will be well on your way to success at AU!

*Why is one session 2 days and the other only 1 day?
We recognize that Transfer Students have different
needs when it comes to orientation at American University. This is why we have created 2 different programs. If you have any questions prior to registering for one of these programs, please contact us at orientation@american.edu or cal (202) 885-3303.

- Our 2 day program is for the transfer student who would like a more "traditional" orientation experience. This is an over night program (you may choose to stay on campus) where you will be placed in small groups with other transfer students. A main focus of this program is making connections with other new students who transferred to AU as well as at least one current student (your Orientation Leader). Click here for a sample schedule.

- Our 1 day program is for the transfer student who has been to an orientation at their previous school, been to AU several times already, or cannot come to orientation in the summer. This program will focus primarily on your academic success at AU. Click here for a sample schedule.

Plan your travel to and from Transfer Transitions. Our July program begins quite early on Day 1. if you are traveling a long distance you might want to take advantage of our early arrival option. Our sample schedules should help you plan your arrival and departure times. More information regarding the schedules will be posted shortly. Please call us at 202-885-3303 if you have any questions.
