Take Back the Night is a march/rally followed by a candlelight vigil and testimonials to raise awareness about domestic abuse and sexual violence. We aim to break the silence and the fear of the night, and to give a voice to both survivors and advocates. This year, our event will take place on Tuesday, April 8th.

The march will begin at 8pm. Check-in will be in front of Hughes Hall beginning at 7:30pm. At check-in, you will be able to pick up whistles, posters, and chant sheets to use during the march.

The march will circle the campus and end at Kay Spiritual Life Center, at approximately 8:30pm. At Kay, there will be a musical performance followed by a candlelight vigil. Finally, there will be testimonials, where anyone who wants to have their story told will be heard.

VOLUNTEERS
We are still accepting volunteers to help on the night of the event. If you are interested in being a walk marshal, a check-in volunteer, or a candlelight vigil volunteer, please contact Colleen Smith at AUTakeBacktheNight@gmail.com. Thank you for your support.

Testimonials:
If you, or someone you know, is interested in giving a testimonial, we ask that you let us know so that we may best support you. You do not have to let us know ahead of time in order to give a testimonial- this is just to enable us to be able to support you before and at the event. If you would like to meet with us about what to expect, or any fears or concerns you may have, please let us know. There will be counselors available at the event until 11pm, and the counseling center will be available the next day during regular hours for anyone seeking help after 11pm.

There are 3 ways to give a testimonial:
- To stand at the front of Kay and give a testimonial.
- To speak from the basement of Kay, so that you may be heard but not seen (we will have surround sound so that everyone will be able to hear you)
- To write your testimonial and send it to us or to a friend to read for you.

Letting us know that you are interested in giving a testimonial is not a binding contract. if you decide at any time that you do or do not feel comfortable giving a testimonial, that is totally fine. We will support you in any way you need. Everyone who wants to have their story told will be heard.
