OPEN AUDITIONS FOR AU STUDENTS

FALL DPA MUSICAL IN THE GREENBERG THEATRE:
"OF THEE I SING"
OUT OF DATE!!!!!

The Show: A fun-loving satire of American elections. It opened in 1931 but is right on the mark for the elections of 2004. This was the first musical to win the Pulitzer Prize. Book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind. Lyrics by Ira Gershwin. Music by George Gershwin.

The Roles: Over 20 speaking parts, including about 12 principal roles. Lots of roles can be either gender.

The Date: Monday, April 19th

The Time: 6:30-10:00 p.m.

The Place: Kreeger, Room 6 - the basement level

What to Prepare:

  • Bring your sheet music!
  • 16 bars of a song from "Of Thee I Sing"** is much preferred. 16 bars from the traditional musical theatre repertoire will be accepted.
  • 1 minute monologue from "Of Thee I Sing" -- OR --a 2-minute scene for 2 characters (max) from "Of Thee I Sing" is much preferred.** A comic monologue from another play will be accepted.

** The script and score are on reserve in the Kreeger Music Library - main floor of the Kreeger building.

The Rehearsals and Performances: The AU production will open in October 2004. The cast will meet once or twice this semester, then return one week before school opens to begin rehearsing.

CALLBACKS AND DANCE AUDITIONS will be held on SATURDAY, APRIL 24TH 10:30-1:00 pm IN CAPITAL AUDITORIUM. If you are not called back, that does not mean that you are not cast. It simply means that the audition panel does not need to see you dance and/or do your monologue again in order to make its decision.
