Presidential Search Committee Chairman

American University has reached an exciting point in its history and is searching for its next president.  On September 19, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution to formally begin the search for a permanent president; establish a search committee; and charge the committee with assessing the university’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities; developing a leadership profile; assembling a list of candidates; assessing candidate qualities and qualifications; creating a short list of top candidates for campus visit and review by constituent groups; and recommending one or more finalists to the Board for final review and selection.

The search committee consists of student, faculty, staff, dean, trustee, and alumni representatives who will solicit feedback and nominations, and keep their constituencies updated on the search’s progress while keeping candidates' names confidential. 

This website is designed to keep you informed about the various elements of the search process.  We intend to post regular updates on this site and are committed to maintaining as open communication as possible throughout the process. 

We invite your nominations of qualified candidates. The review of candidates will begin in January 2007, and will continue until the position is filled, with an anticipated starting date of July 1, 2007. For best review, materials should be submitted by March 9, 2007.
